A Letter from the Chair of the Board
October 14, 2026
Dear Members of the Discovery School Community,
On behalf of the Board of Governors, I am pleased to announce the launch of our official search for the next Head of School of Discovery School, who will assume leadership on July 1, 2027.
As we look toward the future, the Board is deeply committed to finding an exceptional leader who will build upon our school's strong foundation, honor our core values of excellence, creativity, curiosity, and integrity, and guide our community into its next chapter.
We recognize that times of transition can bring uncertainty, particularly in a close-knit community like ours. Discovery is a truly special place. Our approach to education, the relationships between our teachers, students, and families, and the sense of community that has developed over the years are what make Discovery so much more than just a school. We are committed to preserving and strengthening the culture, values, and educational philosophy that make Discovery unique. Finding a leader who shares that commitment will be central to our search.
And while we navigate this transition, there is much to be excited about. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our supporters, we have made tremendous progress in our capital and endowment campaign. We are moving forward with investments in our campus and facilities while building an endowment that will help ensure Discovery's financial strength and independence for generations to come. These investments reflect our confidence in Discovery's future and our commitment to making an already exceptional school even better.
To lead the search process, the Board has established a Head of School Search Committee, consisting of Margaret Black, Lisa Cook, Bailey DeWitt, Jay Goyal, and Monica Phillips. The committee will conduct a comprehensive national and local search to identify highly qualified candidates who share our educational philosophy and vision for Discovery's future.
An important part of this process will be hearing from you. Over the coming weeks, we will invite parents, faculty, staff, and other members of our school community to participate in surveys and listening sessions. We want to hear what you value most about Discovery, what qualities you believe our next Head of School should possess, and what aspirations you have for our school's future. Your perspectives will help shape both the position profile and the committee's evaluation of candidates.
Following a thorough review and selection process, finalists will be invited to visit campus, providing opportunities for members of our community to meet them and offer additional feedback.
We are committed to an open and thoughtful process and will provide regular updates throughout the search. Additional information, including the anticipated timeline and position description, will be available on our Head of School Search webpage as the process progresses.
I believe Discovery's best days are ahead of us. We have an extraordinary community, a distinctive educational mission, and the opportunity to build upon decades of achievement. The work we are doing today - from strengthening our financial foundation to selecting our next Head of School - is about ensuring that Discovery continues to be a place where children are inspired to learn, encouraged to explore, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Thank you for your continued trust, engagement, and commitment to Discovery School. I look forward to working together as we begin this exciting next chapter. If you have any questions, concerns, or thoughts you'd like to share, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly at jay.goyal@gmail.com. I welcome your feedback and am always happy to hear from members of our community.
Warm regards,
Jay Goyal
