Our Intermediate Years include grades 3, 4, and 5, and represent the years as our students move from creating a foundation to applying the knowledge that they have to drive their learning deeper.

Starting in Grade 3, students move into their Intermediate elementary years, marking a shift from learning to read into beginning to read to learn. Students have a strong foundation with knowledge of phonics, phonemic awareness, and word morphology from their younger years, and are moving into increasing reading fluency, making reading comprehension gains, improving their writing, and connecting their ideas in new and creative ways.

In mathematics, students are moving from the basics of numeracy into more complex operations including multiplication and division, fractions and decimals, and other applied knowledge that builds on from their primary years' education.

Through our I.B. Programme of Inquiry, students are considering concepts from a place of stronger background knowledge, allowing them to think more deeply about global issues, apply their knowledge to building deeper understandings around concepts, and synthesize information in ways that have them take action with the skills they have.
