NEW! Assistant Head of School

The Assistant Head of School provides leadership, guidance, and support to the Head of School in managing the day-to-day operations of Discovery School. The Assistant Head of School works closely with faculty, staff, parents, and students to ensure a safe, nurturing, and intellectually stimulating environment for all members of the school community. This position begins August 1, 2023.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of School in developing and implementing the school's strategic plan, policies, and procedures
  • Support the Head of School in overseeing the International Baccalaureate PYP, including curriculum development, assessment, and student progress monitoring
  • Collaborate with the Head of School to conduct formal and informal evaluations of staff members
  • Serve as a liaison between the Head of School and faculty, staff, parents, and other stakeholders, promoting open communication and transparency, including through weekly email updates and blog posts. 
  • Provide supervision and support to faculty and staff, including professional development, learning meetings, mentoring and team teaching. 
  • Assist in planning and executing school events, including admissions events, student-led conferences, and school-wide celebrations
  • Act as a role model and advocate for the school's values, mission, and vision through community outreach and social media updates
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School, including, but not limited to:
    • overseeing ancillary programs such as summer camps and enrichments
    • coordinating state testing
    • leading the LPDC
    • school safety drills


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching and/or administrative experience in an independent school setting
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in curriculum design and instruction
  • An awareness of legal and regulatory requirements for independent schools
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Discovery School
